What ever happened to INTEGRITY in internet marketing?

Posted on 03. Feb, 2009 by charles in Internet Marketing

I am NOT going to try to recommend anything or
sell you on a new product or program today.

What I have for you is something that I brought
home from Karate class and it touched me in such
a way that I thought that you my loyal readers would
appreciate it as much as I did.

Every month the Karate School picks a word for their
students to learn and put to good use.

This might sound like a crazy thing for me to write
about today, however, even though we know this word
and understand it, I thought the following quotes were
worth sharing.

The Word of the month is INTEGRITY

“Real Integrity is doing the right thing, knowing that
nobody’s going to know whether you did it or not.”
Oprah Winfrey — In Good Housekeeping

“I never had a policy; I have just tried to do my very
best each and every day.” Abraham Lincoln

“Try not to become a man of success but rather try
to become a man of value.” Albert Einstein

I know the above words do not have anything to do
with search engine optimization and developing
traffic.

Yet, at the same time, they are very important in
your efforts in marketing.

As a marketer, you have a real responsibility to
share products and promotions that can solve a need
for others.

If in turn you offer less than stellar products or offer them
at a price that does not meet the test of fairness, you
actually can hurt your good reputation.

We start out with a good name. It is something that
should be guarded with every ounce of might in your soul.

Once something happens that could be questioned as
unfair or immoral or unethical, it can be very hard to restore
your integrity in the eyes of the public, in this case your
buyers.

This is one of the reasons that I offer the guarantees on
my products and programs that I do. I really do not want
to entice any one to purchase something that they are
unhappy with or feel they can not use.

I encourage each and every one of you, regardless of
where you are in your internet career to live by those words
above and you will never have to worry about the income
coming in.

Thanks for letting me share this with you today, I hope
you found it to be as worthwhile as I did.

Charles Kirkland

I’ve been using the Internet since 1994. I’ve NEVER seen much integrity in Internet Marketing, ever. Everywhere you look there someone trying to scam you with untold riches that ALWAYS turns out to be bullshit! I started a legitimate webstore to try and move above the crap, but it’s still very hard to make a decent profit. Seems like everything that comes my way never turns into much, and I bust my ass (almost to the point of Divorce) everynight on my ventures. I still hardley make any money doing it. I did however manage to get myself in debt. lol. That I am good at. So, if anyone who reads this has a REAL opportunity that cost little to nothing and I can make just $20 a day doing it. Let me Know. No bullshit please. Stevieb66@gmail.com

Integrity: With it, nothing else matters. Without it, nothing else matters.

Great blog, so many marketing people take the newbies for a ride, it’s good to hear a man of good character.

    Hi Charles-
Thank you for your words of wisdom today. It is refreshing to remind ourselves that there really are people today, walking among us, that still possess the little word “integrity” that spells character.

    Thank you,
    Fran

I agree about integrity being so important, and am glad to see it brought up by you Charles!
There are plenty of people in the I.M business who offer ‘free’ DVDs and other stuff which are solely for enticement and virtually useless. I recently got a couple of the ‘free’ DVDs and was dismayed to find almost nothing of any real value to me. So almost $12 in shipping cost was for nothing but watching a load of self-promotion by someone who claims to be a millionaire. I also was subject to the lack of integrity of a certain famous I.M person, who took a couple of thousand in subscriptions from me but had no guarantee of success for his useless products and site, and despite being a millionaire, refused to give any back. It seems that some peoples’ versions of integrity are quite different to the generally accepted definition.
To see every man/woman (and their dog!) promoting each others’ new deals/DVDs (for commissions), has made vast numbers of folk very cynical about I.M (so much recruiting and list-building for each other makes alot of I.M look like MLM!).
Yes, it is refreshing when wealthy people actually acknowledge that they have ‘enough’, and have the integrity to ‘pay-it-forward’!

Integrity is a very important value but before you can apply you need a solid set of references.
It cannot be said because most crooks would brag about it but it can be understood by your actions.
It is like trust and respect your behaviour inspire it.
For Internet Marketing it is the gold standard that we all seek.

    Hi Charles,
Just a little (hopefully) constructive criticism
about the new colors and look of your blog. I do not like the black. It is just really HARD on the eyes.
Kind of intense and intimidating. Makes me not want to go any further the top before closing it. Sorry man, just trying to help.
The other set up with the light browns and pictures and such was warm and inviting. Friendly looking and frankly I thought pretty cool.
Now I want you to know telling you this is hard especially using words like warm and inviting as an old former Marine, but I really like your content and the info you put out and want to help you if I can cause you are certainly helping me figure out all this internet stuff.
That my more than two cents. (No charge)
Have a great day and please keep the great content coming.
    Robert

    Hi Robert

Thanks for letting me know about the colors. I’m having a hard time myself with this layout and I think I might be changing again to something that looks and feels more like me.

Integrity is necessary with Internet marketing. Otherwise, the word get out about you. Look what happened to United Airlines, when they didn’t pay to fix a guitar. This country western video at http://bit.ly/7byX0 with about 4 million hits, says it all. Thanks for sharing this article.

Honesty, Integrity, Customer Service! All gone by the wayside.

It’s all about the almighty dollar rather than “…how can i help you or my neighborhood, or my country…”.

I just finished dealing with a customer service issue with a well know internet business person. Whether it’s the Internet, the local bank, the local Safeway store or the local KFC. Get that dollar and the customer be d___ed.
